We took a family trip to Cataloochee, a part of the Great Smoky National Park. We got completely lost (every map we had somehow did NOT include this part of the park), but it was completely worth it because when we finally got there, we learned that they had reintroduced elk into that part of the park. These are such huge animals! I had never seen one in real life, in person, not behind any kind of fencing at all. On this particular day, the males of each herd were braying, trying to mark their own territorities. We had hoped we'd see a scuffle or two, but they seemed to be all bark and no bite.
